Heartwarming and moving story, with lovely characters. September 8, 2008 R.Parklane (Tokyo, Japan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this mangaka's distinct story telling, artwork and characters development. Her second licensed work is heartwarming, absorbing and moving, as Maki, a lonely, friendless, insecure and impoverished kid with obsessive compulsive disorder finds both a home and love with Haruya, a much older man. Haruya is a once talented novelist who now writes for a magazine as he has writer's block for years. Both Maki and Haruya are very likable characters and their developing love is well told. 13 years separate them and Maki is only 17 when they first meet but age and experience are no hindrance as Haruya draws Maki from his shell and helps this young man from a broken home with OCD finds confidence and a role in life. Haruya has his own love complications as he has been involved for years with his long time friend who is also his editor and helps in Haruya's career. A love triangle ensues with angst filled moments, and I like the way the mangaka resolves it. The absorbing plot spans a few years and it is so nice to read of the change in Maki, an endearing character, and Haruya's role in Maki's life. Most of the chapters are told from Haruya's view points as this outwardly cool guy finds himself falling for a kid, who also becomes his muse. And the last chapter told from Maki's viewpoint certainly wraps up this lovely story well. Looking forward to Lovers and Souls, the mangaka's next licensed work from Deux. And I lament the fact that Not Love, Kano Miyamoto's well known Yaoi, will not see the light of day.
