Home In America

by Steve Rider

By the time 1970 rolled around
I was already
Not a teenager
Anymore

I was waiting
For the US Marshalls
To get around
To arresting me

August 31
In 1970
They picked me up
at the Sears Roebuck and Co store
In downtown Coatesville Pennsylvania

Coatesville was the big time local City
I was from Pomeroy
The little village
Everybody knew everybody
in Pomeroy

Maybe everybody knew I had
Refused Induction
Into the US Army
two years before
8-23-68

No way
Was I gonna drop
High tech weapons of destruction
on stone age villages
to preserve a 3'x5' piece of cloth

I was radical
I was revolutionary
I was young
I was immortal
I lucked out

Never said I was a faggot
Could have gotten out that way
Send me to your fucking prison
Lyndon Johnson/Richard Nixon

Kill me if you dare to
Screw your fucking war
This is my country
As much as yours
I vote for peace
Fuck your guns

I'm still here
Your war is over
All wars end
War must end
