1948: Steve Rider is born in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Third of four children in a traditional nuclear family. 1948 - 1960: Subject experiences idyllic normal childhood in tiny country village of Pomeroy in PA. By the age of twelve he is already repairing televisions for neighbors. Early signs of a techno-geek career were easy to see, despite the lack of the term, at the time. 1953: Enormous nun at St. Cecilias (Catholic) School holds subject out a window, by his slender, Peter Pan wrist. Subject forty feet above pavement. This causes subject to become a Rebel. 1962: Subjects father dies young, like every Rider man before him for five generations. 1964: Subject notices sexual feelings are exclusively for other males. First sexual experiences occur with Andy 1966: Subject refuses to attend religious ceremony for graduating students at Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester PA. 1967: Subject hitch-hikes from Pennsylvania to San Francisco, staying only a few days, then returns to Pennsylvania. Subject gets job at Sears, Roebuck and Co store in Coatesville, PA - doing TV repairs. 1968: Subject has more sexual experiences with Raoul. On August 23rd, 1968 subject refuses induction into the US Army, cementing his role as a Rebel. Subject does not lay claim to being gay to avoid draft, as he is still deeply in denial, due to a very Catholic upbringing. 1970: Subject is arrested by two US Marshalls on a charge of "Failure To Perform a Duty Under the Selective Service Act of 1967, As Amended" on August 31, 1970. Released under own recognizance. 1971: Defeats US Government in Federal Court, Philadelphia PA on January 5, 1971. Becomes engaged to a biologically female woman. Still deep in denial of sexual orientation. Marries in November. Performs Alternative Service as Conscientious Objector at Goodwill Industries in Worcester MA. 1971 - 1982: Subject fathers three children, enters datacommunications business. Subject is sued for divorce by (now EX-) wife. 1983 - 1986: Subject gradually comes to terms with his sexual orientation as he begins to haunt the gay bars in Worcester MA. Remains deeply closeted. 1990: Subject meets a drag queen, Joey Barbara in a gay bar. 1991: Subject becomes acquainted with a young gay boy, Brian in the Worcester area. A love affair ensues. 1992: Subject moves to California at the expense of General Datacomm to become the best Field Engineer on the West Coast. Subject meets his best friend, The Donald, and also his first sexual partner in California, Bacon. Subject comes out to the entire planet. Subject attends first Gay Pride Parade in San Francisco in June, assisting The Donald in operating The Closet Door and is inspired to become a writer by the experience. Subject meets dear friend, Sweet Sweet Brian in the fall of 1992. Initially subject develops crush on Sweet Sweet Brian, which develops into a very Gay Weekend. 1993: Subject falls into disastrous long distance relationship with a person from Massachusetts. 1994: Subject meets John Korntved, falls in love. 1995: Subject moves in with John Korntved. 1996: John Korntved commits suicide, subject is denied access to his own legal residence by a homophobic Santa Clara County Coroner, the San Jose alternative newspaper Metro does an article about the matter. 1996: November 17th, subject meets a sweet, beautiful, vegetarian, bicyclist homo named Terry and falls in love. 1997: Terry and Steve move in together, Steve travels to Tokyo to visit Terry, who is there on business. 1997: May, Terry and Steve exchange lovely Platinum "wedding" rings and begin living happily thereafter. 1997: November 17,1997 - Terry and Steve celebrate their one year anniversary. 1998: Terry and Steve vacation in Terry's native UK, visiting Terry's family and friends. 1998: Steve becomes the first Rider man in 6 generations to be alive when his own grandchild is born. 1999: Steve accompanies Terry on California AIDS Ride 6, Terry rides while Steve volunteers on the tent crew. 2000: Steve changes jobs four times, due to a layoff, a psycho boss from hell, a temp position at Sun Microsystems, and a new full time position. 2000: Steve joins Terry as a rider (rider Rider) in California AIDS Ride 7 - they ride together on a tandem. 2001: After years of saving and planning, Steve and Terry buy their dream vacation/retirement home in Palm Springs CA. They must continue to live and work in the SF Bay area in order to pay for it.
